Magnetic surveys consist of reading the Earth's geomagnetic field along a profile or lines arranged perpendicular to the magnetic structures or rocks to be studied. This survey is carried out with readings at variable distances according to the objectives established in the research. In this survey, absolute values of the geomagnetic field, or its vertical component, are measured using magnetometers.

 

Variations in the magnetic field are produced due to the different magnetic susceptibility of minerals contained in the rocks of the Earth's crust.
